Privacy Policy

SoloDash

Last Updated: July 3, 2026

1. Introduction

Grid Developer ("we," "our," or "us") operates the SoloDash dashcam Android application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App uses device permissions, handles data, and protects your privacy. SoloDash is designed to be a privacy-first dashcam — most data stays on your device and is never transmitted unless you explicitly choose to share it. Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.

2. Data Collection

SoloDash is designed to operate primarily offline. Video recordings, GPS logs, and app settings are stored locally on your device. We do not automatically collect or transmit your personal data.

The App does not collect:

  • Personal identifiable information (name, email, phone number)
  • Contact lists or messages
  • Information about other installed applications
  • Browsing history or bookmarks

3. Camera & Microphone Usage

SoloDash requires camera and microphone access to record driving footage. Here is how these permissions are used:

Camera is used solely for recording video while the dashcam is active

Microphone is used to record audio alongside video (configurable in settings)

Camera is NOT used when the App is not actively recording

Video and audio are NOT transmitted or uploaded unless you manually share a file

No facial recognition or biometric data is collected

4. Location & GPS Data

SoloDash uses GPS (and network location when GPS is unavailable) to track your vehicle's speed and route. This data is:

Stored locally on your device as part of your video recordings

Rendered as a visual overlay (speed, coordinates) on your recordings

NOT transmitted to any server or third party

NOT used for real-time location tracking or advertising

Location data (background location) is required for the App to provide speed overlays and GPS tracking even when the App is in the background during recording. You can disable GPS tracking in settings, which will stop location access but may reduce recording context.

5. Permissions Used

5.1 Camera

Required for recording video from your device's camera(s). The App supports front and rear cameras. Only active during recording sessions.

5.2 Microphone

Required for recording audio alongside video. Can be disabled in settings if you prefer video-only recording.

5.3 Location (GPS)

Used for vehicle speed tracking and GPS coordinate overlays. Background location is required for continuous recording in the background. No location data is transmitted off-device.

5.4 Foreground Service

Required to keep the dashcam recording reliably in the background. A persistent notification will appear while recording is active, showing recording status and duration.

5.5 Notification Permission (Android 13+)

Required to show the foreground service notification. You can manage this permission from your device settings.

5.6 Storage / Media Access

Required to save recorded videos to your device's storage or SD card. You can control storage location and manage recordings directly from the App.

6. Third-Party Services

SoloDash integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Google AdMob — Used to display advertisements in the App's settings screen and other non-recording UI. AdMob may collect Advertising ID, usage data related to ad interactions, and approximate location (based on IP address). Note: ads are not displayed while recording to avoid distraction and ensure safety. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Play Billing — Used for processing in-app purchases (Pro/SoloDash+ subscription). No payment data is processed by SoloDash directly; all transactions are handled by Google Play's billing system.
  • Firebase Crashlytics — (Optional) Used for crash reporting to help us improve stability. May collect device information necessary for diagnosing crashes. No personal data is collected.

You can opt out of advertising personalization by enabling "Opt out of Ads Personalization" in your device's Google settings.

7. Data Storage & Deletion

All app data (recordings, settings, preferences) is stored locally on your device. To delete all data:

  • Delete recordings directly from within the App's playback screen
  • Uninstall the App from your device, or
  • Go to Settings → Apps → SoloDash → Storage → Clear Data

Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data including recordings. We recommend backing up any important recordings before uninstalling.

8. Children's Privacy

SoloDash is not directed at children under the age of 13. The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App's features or applicable regulations. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Contact Information

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the App's data practices, please contact us:
